How I can help with insomnia and sleep problems
My approach to treating insomnia and sleep issues is very practical – it focuses on bringing about rapid improvements in your sleep.
We’ll look at the possible causes for your sleep issues, and I’ll help you to understand exactly how much or how little you are actually sleeping, and what you sleep pattern is like. We’ll put in place simple, practical changes that can make a huge difference to your ability to sleep. This is called ‘sleep hygiene’ and can include a number of changes, including changes to what you eat and drink (for example, caffeine consumption), your sleep environment (for example, room temperature and light levels), and your pre-bedtime behaviours (for example, use of electronic devices).
I’ll teach you how to relax really deeply – this alone can have a major impact on your ability to sleep well. You can use then use rapid relaxation techniques to reduce stress, anxiety and muscle tension throughout the day and before you fall asleep – this can be central to getting a restful night’s sleep. If you have problems with thoughts running through your head at night, I’ll teach you techniques for distancing yourself from them.
I’ll also use cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy to replace any negative associations that you have between going to bed and insomnia, with new positive associations, and we’ll use hypnosis (and self-hypnosis) to promote deeper sleeping.
I’m happy to spend some time talking through your sleep issue with you. It’s completely confidential, so feel free to contact me for a chat about how I can help.
I work with clients from across London and the South East, and home visits are available for London-based clients. I also provide Skype sessions for people who aren’t able to see me face-to-face.
